Hero has a menu at the top of the screen to assist you with navigating around the site.
GROUPS AND CLASSES
To navigate to any group of two or more students, click on GROUPS AND CLASSES (twin heads icon).
The page will default to showing classes (these may be given an alternative name by your school).
Here you will be presented with options including:
My groups - Groups you can set up that are only visible to you. These may be set up to assist you in your daily teaching
Shared groups - Groups you can set up that are visible to all staff. These groups are also visible in the community notices area so the parents can receive emails
Auto groups - These groups are populated automatically based on enrolment information, attendance data and posts made on selected pages
Classes - These are groups of students that reflect the structure of the school. These groups may be renamed to reflect the context of the school, eg. Hapori, Homegroups or Tutor groups
FIND PEOPLE (single head icon) enables you to search the site for a current student or currently employed staff member.
After clicking the FIND PEOPLE icon, select FIRST NAME or LAST NAME then the relevant letter of the alphabet. All the students and staff members with names starting with the letter will be displayed.
When you log in to Hero you will be taken to your home page.
This is where you can use the STAFF FEED feature to post content for your colleagues to view and to comment on colleagues' posts.
You can use the STUDENT FEED feature to send a message to students. Posts can be sent to students in a class or classes, group or groups, or the whole school. A simple survey can also be added to a post. Students do not receive notifications. They need to log into the Hero student app and navigate to My Feed to view notices sent to groups they are part of.
The COMMUNITY FEED feature is where a staff member can send a message to the parent community. Posts can be sent to the parents of students in a class or classes, group or groups, or the whole school. Parents receive a notification that the message has been posted.
TEXT MESSAGES can be sent by the software administrators where the school has enabled this feature.
The search tool (magnifying glass icon) allows you to search for a currently enrolled student, pre-enrolled student or former student using their legal first name, preferred first name, legal surname or preferred surname.
You can also use this search box to find the profile of a currently employed staff, member, a parent or caregiver by entering either their first name or surname. Entering an email address will display the student or students associated with this address.
The Help icon enables you to search through a library of help resources designed to assist you in using the features and functions within the software. Simply enter a keyword or keywords into the search box and tap Enter on your keyboard.
