Hero gives you the option to communicate with your staff, caregivers and students with the Staff, Student and Community Feeds. Bulk Text Messaging (if enabled) can also be utilised for caregiver communication.
Users are able to narrow these feeds down using a multitude of search and filtering tools. Both draft and published posts are included in the results for staff, and published posts are included in the results for students and caregivers.
Staff feed options
- Search by Content - find a word or group of words in a post or post title
- Filter by Author - find all posts created by one or more staff members
- Filter by Date - find all posts created within a specified date range
Student and Community feed options
- as for Staff Feed plus
- Filter by Student - find posts sent to one or more students (based on their group membership)
- Filter by Group - find all posts sent to one or more student groups.
- Filter by Status - find posts still in draft or alternatively exclude draft posts.
Text Message options
- as for the Student and Community feeds
Caregiver and Learner Apps
- Search by Content - find a word or group of words in a post or post title
- Search by Author - find all posts created by one or more staff members (via an existing post)
- Search by Group - find all posts sent to one or more student groups (via an existing post)
- Caregivers with students at more than one Hero school are also able to filter their Community Feed by school to see only posts from one school.
SEARCH POSTS BY CONTENT
Searching by content is available to staff, caregivers, and students using the Search box at the top of all feeds. Staff can narrow down their search further by using the search in conjunction with the filtering options available.
1. Navigate to the feed you wish to view.
- Staff members go to the home page (House Icon in the top tool bar) and select Staff Feed, Student Feed, Community Feed or Text Messages
- Caregivers go to the Community Feed
- Students go to My Feed
2. Click into the Search field and start typing. The following search rules have been adopted.
- Searching is not case-sensitive
- Insignificant words will not activate the search due to performance limitations e.g. the, and, a, at etc
- Recognised words are required i.e. head will be found in heading as head is a recognised word, welc will not be found in welcome
- Entering multiple words will find all posts with either word
- Entering multiple words within quotation marks " " will find all posts with the whole phrase
FILTERING POSTS BY STUDENT
'Filter by student' actions a group search based on student membership. The student is found, their current groups are identified and posts sent to these groups are then extracted. Note: A post will not be found if the student is no longer a member of a group that a post was sent to.
1. Navigate to the Student, Community or Text Messages feed.
2. Click FILTER.
3. Start typing the name of the student in the Select Students field or click the spacebar for a dropdown list of all students. Select the student(s) you wish to view posts for.
4. Multiple students can be selected.
5. To clear a filter, click the x on the active filter button.
FILTERING POSTS BY AUTHOR OR GROUP
There are two methods that can be used to filter posts by Author or Group. The first is by using the FILTER button and the second by clicking on an existing post. Both options are explained below.
FILTERING POSTS BY AUTHOR via the FILTER BUTTON
1. Navigate to the Staff, Student, Community or Text Messages feed and click FILTER.
2. Start typing the name of the staff member in the Select Authors field or click the spacebar for a dropdown list of all staff members. Select the staff member(s) you wish to view posts for. Multiple staff members can be selected.
FILTERING POSTS BY GROUP via the FILTER BUTTON
1. Navigate to the Staff, Student, Community or Text Messages feed and click FILTER.
2. Start typing the name of the group in the Select Groups field or click the spacebar for a dropdown list of all groups. 'My Groups' will only be shown to owners of these groups. Select the group(s) you wish to view posts for. Multiple groups can be selected.
FILTERING POSTS BY AUTHOR OR GROUP via an EXISTING POST
1. Navigate to the feed you wish to view.
- Staff members go to the home page (House Icon in the top tool bar) and select Staff Feed, Student Feed or Community Feed
- Caregivers go to the Community Feed
- Students go to My Feed
2. To view only posts written by a specific author, identify a post this author has written and click on the author's name under the post title.
3. To view only posts made to a group or class, identify a post addressed to this group or class and click on the group or class name under the post title.
Note: as staff feed posts are not addressed to groups or classes, this option is not available.
4. You will now see only posts that match your selection. The existing filter fields will be populated with your selection.
Note: You are able to filter by a post author and a group or class at the same time.
FILTERING POSTS BY DATE
Quick keys or a date range can be used to filter posts by date.
1. Navigate to the Staff, Student, Commmuity or Text Messages feed and click FILTER.
2. Use the Calendar icon to select the date range you wish to include
OR
3. Use a quick key for a predefined range. THIS WEEK is based on Monday to Friday whereas 7 DAYS is the last 7 days.
4. Click the TRASH icon to clear currently selected date filters.
FILTERING POSTS BY STATUS (Draft or Published)
Quick keys will help you find all posts written in advance for delayed publication.
1. Navigate to the Student, Commmuity or Text Messages feed and click FILTER.
2. Click DRAFT to show only unpublished posts or click PUBLISHED to exclude posts in draft. Leave blank for all.
FILTERING COMMUNITY FEED POSTS BY SCHOOL (FOR CAREGIVERS)
With Hero it is possible for caregivers to view students, and associated Community Feed posts, from more than one Hero school. Caregivers are able to filter the Community Feed to view only posts from a particular school.
1. Navigate to the Community Feed as a caregiver of a student.
2. Identify a post made by the school you wish to filter by and click the School Logo
3. You will now see only posts that match your selection. An active filter button will appear at the top of the feed to display what you are viewing.
Note: You are able to filter by a post author and a group or class at the same time.
4. To clear a filter, click the x on the active filter button.
