Hero has the ability to store student owned medications. In conjunction with this, a medication schedule can be created to support the timely administration of regular medications.
Alerts notifications will ensure that medications are administered on time.
ADDING A MEDICATION SCHEDULE
Adding a medication schedule can be done from either the administration menu or the individual student. The processes can be actioned by any staff members with administration access and for other staff members if permitted to do so. The 'All staff can manage medications' setting controls who can create a medication schedule.
A Medical Condition is required to be created before a Medication Schedule can be entered.
To Add a Schedule
1. Navigate to the Administration menu > Medications Register
or alternatively the Individual Student > Information (i) icon > Medical (or Wellbeing)
2. Click the Schedule icon to add a new schedule. If the icon is green, this denotes that a schedule already exists. Check the existing schedule first to ensure that you are not duplicating the requirement. Multiple schedules can be added for a medication.
3. The schedule is based on Time to enable the ability to easily select multiple days. If a medication is required multiple times per day or at different times on different days, it is necessary to create a schedule per Time.
4. Enter the Time and click the Days, when it needs to be administered at this particular time.
5. Enter the Start Date and End Date. For long-term medication you may wish to enter an end date of 31/12/2999 or the end of the current year, if it needs to be reviewed each year.
6. Enter the scheduled Dosage. This may need to be updated as the student gets older.
7. Click SAVE to add the schedule.
8. If a further schedule is required with a different time, click YES to create another schedule, otherwise click NO to exit.
9. When viewing the medication, it is now evident that a schedule exists. The SCHEDULE icon is green and the ADMINISTER icon is disabled. This is to ensure that the medication is administered via the schedule.
10. Clicking the INFORMATION icon will show the schedule below the medication details.
VIEWING AND EDITING MEDICATION SCHEDULES
Two options exist for viewing medication schedules. For Administrators these are located with the medication register.
1. Click TODAY'S SCHEDULE for all medications due to be administered in the current day.
2. Separate tabs exist for those due to be administered and those already administered.
3. An ALERT icon will be displayed if the medication is more than 30mins late.
4. It is from here that a scheduled medication will be administered. Click the ADMINISTER icon to administer the medication. This will be covered under Administering Medication.
5. If the Administer icon is disabled, this denotes that no stock is available.
6. The ADMINISTRATION SCHEDULE (ALL) provides a list of all medication schedules and provides options to edit and delete schedules.
7. Tabs exist for both CURRENT and NON-CURRENT schedules. Non-current schedules are those that have past their end date.
8. Click the EDIT icon to amend an existing schedule.
9. Click the DELETE icon to remove an existing schedule.
