Applying Preferred Gender Indicators

While Male and Female are still the only genders accepted by the MoE/DoS for official returns, in Hero you are able to apply a preferred gender to your students if they do not associate themselves with their legal gender. The colour of the gender ribbon and indicator glow will match the preferred gender on the student. See Changing the Colour of Gender Ribbons and Indicator Glows

ENABLE THE PREFERRED GENDER FIELD

Please contact the Hero Helpdesk to request the application of the Preferred Gender field to your students.

The value of this field will default to Use Legal Gender for all of your students

SETTING A STUDENT'S PREFERRED GENDER

Using the preferred gender field you are able to have any combination of legally male or female with the preferred gender of Male, Female or Gender Neutral.

1. Find the student using one of the search tools available

2. Click on the student information (i) icon

3. In Basic Information select the value for preferred gender that this student identifies with if different to their legal gender. 

This student will now have the preferred gender colour indicators applied to them in your Hero site.

Note: this will not impact on the Legal Gender field when this information is applied for reporting or auditing purposes.
